Other (phone, health club, etc.) Cont'd attempts collect debt not owed Debt was discharged in bankruptcy Texas
On - - of this year, I filed for Chapter - Bankruptcy relief, and included a $1500.00 debt from Texas - University, which I incurred from dropping courses after the withdrawal date. This debt was appropriately included in my Chapter - schedule F, and discharged by the presiding judge on - the -. Today, - the -, I received an alert via my credit monitoring service informing me that I now have a collection on my - report from the Williams and Fudge agency for a $1900.00 debt to Texas - University. I was unable to attain auto financing due to this open collection with a high reported balance. My - score dropped - points once this collection account was added. I placed a phone call, left a voicemail, sent an email with attached copies of my Chapter - petition, schedules, and discharge to Williams and Fudge. I also sent a dispute along with all of my BK documents -. Now I have to wait a month or so for this inaccuracy to be investigated. This school debt comprised one of the largest balances of any of my debts, and was a significant factor in my decision to file for bankruptcy. My credit report has rightfully suffered from the bankruptcy filing. I should not be further penalized by having collections reported on debts that were discharged in the case. I advise anyone who files for bankruptcy to keep diligent records of every debt, payment history, and communication with your creditors. Receiving a bankruptcy discharge does not mean your case is over or that you wo n't be hit with attempts to collect your debt at a later date. Sadly, a collection agency can inflict serious damage upon your credit report overnight, while it will take you a month or more to dispute, verify, and defend your credit score when inaccuracies are reported.
