In - -, I received - - 's from Chase canceling the debt owed for each card to include as income on my - Tax Return. During - -, I reviewed my credit reports and determined all - credit bureaus were still carrying the amount owed on these accounts as balances. Based upon the Indentifiable Event Code ( Box - ) listed on the -, Chase has marked a code of - '' Instructions for filling out a - states the following : Code G - Decision or policy to discontinue collection. Code - is used to identify cancellation of debt as a result of a decision or a defined policy of the creditor to discontinue collection activity and cancel the debt. For purposes of this identifiable event, a defined policy includes both a written policy and the creditor 's established business practice. I have attempted to dispute these items but Chase says I still owe the monies for these cards. Based upon the Identifiable Event Code, Chase has followed their policy and canceled the debt. A cancelation of the debt per the IRS is the debt is no longer valid.
