Credit card Communication tactics Threatened to take legal action California
A man, - -, left a message on my voicemail claiming he was trying to locate me with a legal summons for a lawsuit. He left me the number of this company to contact in regards to this case. I called the number he provided where I was told I was being accused of defrauding - - for a credit card I had issued back in 2000. They were suing me for over $ -.They claim Citibank bought the debt and they were now demanding their money. I am not sure that this is a valid debt. I have not received any collection notice from this company as of yet, just this phone call. I contacted my attorney and she researched our local county court calendar. She can not find a court date for this hearing. At this point she feels as though this is a scam of some sort and recommended I report it to the authorities. I am also concerned because these people do have at least the last - numbers of my social security number.
