Payoff process Louisiana

I have a revolving line of credit with Avant that I want to close and pay off. I called Avant and requested that the account be closed and requested a payoff and they refused. They said they could not close the account and could not give me a payoff? I dont want this account open any more to tempt me to use it, and I want a payoff so I can pay it off and be done with it.
