Amex Credit card department,
APR or interest rate California
One year ago I contacted American Express because I was not receiving statements in any form but I did receive a letter that a late payment was triggering a penalty APR. I called them indicating the problem and they could NOT confirm that they were sending statements but would drop the penalty and start sending me e-mail statements. Since then, I still do n't receive statements but did receive another penalty APR notice - days ago. Over the past year I 've begun making payments electronically which is the only way for me to check balances. Under this scenario it is possible to miss a date but I take my credit rating seriously and check my account at least - per month. Yesterday when I called they had a message saying to call back in 24 hours. Today a representative claims their system is down and they will call back. Getting a statement should not be too much to ask. It occurs to me that not providing statements is a convenient way to collect fees or indicates they do not have systems in place to meet basic customer needs. I have been a card member for 27 years.
