December 20, 2016 - I had a CD with Synchrony. When it matured, they rolled it over without asking ( fine print in the contract ). I called TWO DAYS later, but they were adamant. Told them they can keep the interest earned since it rolled over, but they charged interest on the FUTURE time that the CD would be with them - six months ' worth. I called and explained there was a death in the family and that is why I needed the money. They asked for it in writing, saying they would break the CD and not charge a fee. December 14, 2016 - Synchrony Bank mails customers statements of certificates of deposits ( CD ) balances and interest credited once a month. Bank credits interest monthly by individual CD date, but provides only a single statement for all CD 's in the customer 's name once a month. For CD 's with interest credit dates after the current month statement date, customers have to wait for the next month 's statement to verify the interest earned in the prior month. August 15, 2016 - I am a beneficiary on my father 's account and CD 's who passed away and owns - CD 's. The bank has cashed in the CD 's and has contacted me on many mistakes they made on distributions. The bank has requested the original distributed money be returned so they can recalculate the correct distribution. I requested the bank provide a full reporting of the total amount of each CD and they have refused. I gave instructions to the bank to close my CD account that matured on -/-/16 and transfer the funds on maturity date to my bank account in - - -.
