I have paid out close to $15000.00 over the years and when i speak with - - - ( - ) in - NY, the collection agency taking my social security paycheck, they tell me i still have close to a $3000.00 balance. They sent additional attempts to collect debt. I filed for chapter - - Bankruptcy relief and included them. They started sending wage garnishment attempts to my employers. I contacted Consumer Finance Gov regarding this and the company states the account is closed as of - -. Initially, the amount outstanding claimed was $1700.00. Soon after, Educational Credit Management Corp. added approximately $8000.00 to the balance for " fees ''. It is my knowledge and belief that this is illegal, as I understand that the CFPB has enforced proper sanctions in similar situations. My loans are 30 years past due.
