Amex consumers have reported over 87 official complaints related to Payoff process. Out of the 87 consumer complaints against Amex, 29% were disputed by the consumer (i.e. the consumer was not happy with how Amex responded to their complaint) and 100% were processed in a timely manner. 13% of consumer complaints against Amex resulted in the consumer receiving monetary compensation (e.g. money, cash reimbursement, etc.) and 7% resulted in non-monetary compensation.

Therefore, I have been making payments in excess of my minimum payment requirements in an attempt to pay off this higher interest balance. However, I have discovered that my the entire portion of my payment up to the minimum amount due is only applied to my lower interest rate balance. Amex Credit card payoff process June 23, 2016 - Hi, Thank you in advance for your help. We paid on our credit card balance of $240.00 a " cash reward '' of $200.00. This $200.00 reward was earned and was correctly credited for that month. However, American Express charged us a $20.00 fee because we did not make the " minimum payment '' of $35.00.
