Non-federal student loan Can't repay my loan Can't decrease my monthly payments New Jersey

I just started working 2 months ago. I consolidated and adjusted to government student loans. But the private student loans wanted money before I even got paid my first check. So I was in the rear from the beginning. They would not let me defer for another month, they will not change the due date or adjust the amount that I am able to pay. Even with a second job on weekends, I do not earn enough to pay the rent and the student loans. Are there any laws that they have to make some adjustments?
