I have just entered repayment for my student loans, both sallie mae and -, paid to - college and - university. I 'm a graduate - and am a life long PA resident. I am making under $26000.00 annually and am due to give birth in -/-/2016. With added medical bills, from pregnancy and a preexisting condition, and day to day bills, I contacted my lenders to work out lower monthly payments of some sort. Sallie Mae informed me their extended repayment program would n't change my payments and they could not help me any further. Now every time I call them they are brash and offended when I ask about any programs they offer besides deferment. -, I have called many many times, filed a complaint on this site before and followed all the paper work trails they have asked me to. I did this in the hope of getting income based repayments, but the last time I called I was actually told they could n't lower my $ - monthly payments a lot and that " because I have n't missed any payments 'they ' have no other options for me at this time. '' As a responsible adult I 'm trying to work with them and even did financial statements for them, showing I have an extra $10.00 a month and my cosigner has very little extra income as well. I am trying to work in their rules but I 'm simply not able to pay and neither is the cosigner, and after my forbearance has ended my only option according to them is to stop paying. The fact that my original lender for all my loans, sallie mae, specifically told me that I could get income based repayments after graduation is most annoying part.
