Other (phone, health club, etc.) Disclosure verification of debt Right to dispute notice not received Minnesota

I was not properly notified whether or not I owed a $280.00 - bill that is now in collection and is adversely affecting my credit score. I had - 2 years ago. I took a small break from their services and then I re-established service. I have maintained my account current at all times. When I took a break from having - services I was not notified that I had a remaining balance due. When I reconnected services, I was never notified that I had an outstanding balance. I was re-issued service and I have maintained my bill current the entire time. I have recently reviewed my credit report and a $280.00 collection appeared. I disputed the account because I did not recognize it. The account ended up being verified. I called the collection agency - Southwest Credit System - and they gave me an account number to give -. They ended up finding an account that had a past due balance that is not linked to the account I have now. I feel that - did not properly keep records of my past and current account balances even though the service was reconnected at the exact same address with

once I reconnected my service, I would have paid it. I have lived at the same address during that service break ( before, during, and after ) and I was never notified that I owed this amount. I feel that this is not FAIR Credit Reporting because now I have an account in collection that I never knew about. I even attempted to call with my current account information and they always told me that my account was current. If I would have been issued a regular bill I would have paid it but this collection notice was the first time I found out about this account.
