After granting me a Care Credit card, Synchrony Bank checked my credit report 2 months after I paid off the card my balance and, stating that my credit no longer " met their terms '', they closed my account after less than 18 months. Nowhere in my terms and conditions of the agreement did it state that I had to maintain a certain level of credit worthiness in order to keep the card. In the terms and agreement, it stated that they may periodically check my credit in order to review, maintain, and collect on my account. I have never been late or missed a payment. I have used less than 50 % of the total available credit of the credit given. Because of my history with the company, there was no justifiable reason for their closing my account, causing my debt to income ratio to increase, resulting in a further drop in my credit score. When I called Synchrony/CareCredit to inquire about this, they stated that it was " standard practice ''. Yet, I was never advised of this practice, nor given a " warning '' of how my current outside financial situation would hurt my good standing with


Once I received the letter from the company, informing me of their decision to close my account, I contacted them, via phone, to ask them specifically what the logic was behind closing the account and told them the ramifications to my credit score and file their actions would have. I was advised by a supervisor that it is their common practice to close accounts when a consumer no longer meets their credit criteria to hold the account, nevermind that it is not listed in the terms and conditions. I, again, advised the supervisor that closing my account will cause my credit score to plummet and asked her to explain to me how her company 's actions can not be seen as a having a negative effect on me especially since I have never violated any of the credit terms and agreements to warrant the closure.
