I do not know Improper contact or sharing of info Contacted employer after asked not to California

The company called and spoke to the receptionist. They asked for my last - SSN and informed the receptionist they were calling to verify employment for debt collection. My fellow co-workers did not and should not know of my current financial status. It has also damaged my reputation in this brand new position in this new job. I do not think informing my co-worker that they are calling to collect debt not asking for her to reveal my SSN ( which as a regular co-worker she does not have access to ) is appropriate or legal.
