JPMorgan Chase & Co. Credit card department,
I had a Chase Mileage Plus Explorer Visa card which has an annual fee of $ -./yr. I chose to discontinue that card and knew that the fee was coming due in -. I cut up the card and mailed it to Visa in the -. When I received the statement in -, I ignored it since I knew that I had already closed the account and had not made any purchases on it for at least six months. In -, I received a statement with the $95.00. annual fee plus a $1.00 purchase interest charge. I called them immediately saying that I had mailed the cut up the card and that the account was closed. They told me that they had not received notice that it was closed and that they would close the account but that I still owed the $95.00 fee since it was not closed within the time frame of when the bill was received. My argument is that I certainly did close it within the appropriate time frame. The fact that they can not find it should not be on my dime.
