Checking account Problems caused by my funds being low Maryland
I recently re-opened a checking account with BB & T to go with the savings account I had with the bank. When I opened the account, I linked my savings account to the checking account for overdraft protection. I deposited the funds and used my debit card as normal. A few weeks ago I need to make a purchase with limited funds in the checking account. Mobile banking and online banking would not allow me to transfer funds from savings to checking to cover the transaction. A few days later, after all of my pending transactions posted, BB & T charged me several overdraft fees though I had overdraft protection. There was no real explanation given. I was charged nearly $370.00 in overdraft fees though I had the funds in savings to cover all transactions and had overdraft protection. When I spoke with bank associates, I was told that they can only credit one fee ( which they did and later reversed ) and that my checking account was dormant though I had made deposits and withdrawals from the account at a branch. I understand paying for overdrafts if the bank pays for something for a person ; but if the person has the funds in a linked account and opts into overdraft protection, the person should not be charge such insane fees.
