I contacted Chase Bank a few months back to understand how they apply payments, I was told then that that payments are applied to the highest interest balance. Today -/-/16 I was reviewing my statements for the last few months and noticed that this has not been the case so I called Chase again. I spoke to a - in their - - T- call center who told me again that payments are in fact credited to the balance with the highest interest rate.. When I told her that based on the information on my statement this was not the case so she then told me that any payment I make first is credited to my oldest promotion balance and the remaining funds to my balance with the highest interest rate.


- had me on the phone for over 45 minutes and finally transferred me to her supervisor - who also could not answer my question. By then I was on the phone for an hour asking that someone tell me the breakdown of how my payments have been applied but neither - or her supervisor could figure this out looking at various screens on their computer. My question is if Chase employees ca n't figure this out how an average consumer could ever be able to see where their money is being applied to. I asked - to formally log my complaint as I was expecting someone at Chase could get the answer to may question and call me back but I was told that she will log the complaint but that no one at Chase would call me back as they do n't reply to the complaints filed-this just makes no sense-why log a complaint if you are not going to do anything about it. I now feel that Chase has been taking my money and applying the payments any way they choose -probably to my lower interest balance so that they can maximize their interest income while causing me, the consumer to overpay interest Their statements are certainly not consumer friendly to allow me in seeing how every dollar I pay is being applied. I have no faith in Chase and their customer service and want to understand as minimizing my interest costs is critical to me.
