Non-federal student loan Dealing with my lender or servicer Don't agree with fees charged Illinois
My complaint is more of a concern with legality of fees and interest charged on my private loan with Navient ( FKA - - ). In short, in - I took out a private loan for $7000.00 with - - ( now known as Navient ), the loan went into repayment - - to which the balance was then $12000.00, since this point and to date I paid $140.00 per month ( $8400.00 so far ), my balance as of today is $9400.00 which makes my payments toward the principle total $3800.00 - so I paid $13000.00 plus, and counting, for a $7000.00 loan ( - + - = - ). The loan matures in -/-/-, so at this rate it appears I 'll be paying well over $20000.00 in interest for a $7000.00 loan ; how is this any different then the practices of payday loan and title loan lenders?
Also, this $140.00 amount I pay is more than the minimal payment, so what they do is push my payments back to the corresponding month for 'over payment ' ( i.e. if I pay $280.00 in -/-/-, my next payment wo n't come due until -/-/- ) - today I can make payments in months payments are n't due, they just push next payment due back to corresponding month of over-payment, my concern is that their calculation of interest owed is n't in favor of me, the consumer, paying the loan off early. Also, at one point they did n't allow you to make extra payments ; at least online - that 's how I 've made all my payments.
