Last year, when I was facing some severe financial hardship, Discover Card customer service admirably assisted me by reducing my rate to 12.99 %. I did not realize at the time that this was only a temporary measure. Today I opened my Discover Card bill and found that a check I had mailed out on - - was not posted to my account until - -, fully two days after my payment due date, and that my interest rate had shot up to 22.24 percent. In comparison, it took - - - two days to post my check payment to my account with them. Both checks were mailed the same day to the same city : -, North Carolina. I immediately logged into the Discover website to reach out to their customer service department. CSRs - and - gave me some facile, patronizing, dismissive answers about why it took over two weeks for my check payment to clear & why my APR increased so drastically and suddenly. According to - my rate was raised to a usurious 21.99 % because I had missed one payment in -, FOUR FULL CALENDAR YEARS AGO, followed by a further .25 % increase due to the Federal Reserve 's recent rate hike. I have paid early or on time every month, at or above the minimum required payment, my credit rating is the highest it 's been in years, then their company almost doubles my APR and then offers to " reduce '' my rate to slightly above 20 percent, a disgraceful slap in the face of a customer who has been nothing but loyal to their company since -.
