My son has both private and Federal Student loans. He did get behind and I ( - - Father ) have been catching him up. Actually I have always made the payments. He was going to take them over and lost his job, so I took them over and will be caught up next month or by first of - 2016. The private loan was cosigned by his Grandmother. She recently passed away. The Grandfather got - and died in - home on Medicaid several months earlier. The feds of course took his pension and Medicare to cover medical bills. They left her with just enough just to live on. Navient is handling the student loans. The private loan is current. Navient has sent a letter to the cosigners son demanding a cosigner or they would request the loan be paid off immediately as if there was a huge estate left. The loan is current and not in default. This is harassing the family and Navient who I just spoke to said they wanted someone else on the loan to ensure loan is paid. The way the payments are distributed the private must get their portion first. Regardless the private loan is current and they are harassing the family and need to be stopped for everyones sake that has a private loan being handled by Navient. Navient stated they sending loan to a " - - - " who ever they are for collection. The loan is current as the documents show! Stop them from harassing the family.
