After my credit information was compromised by the state of South Carolina we were offered free credit protection for one year. We opted for the protection so that no credit could be issued to me unless I was physically present. A few months later ( today, - - ) I visited my local verizon store to get a cell phone plan. - needed to verify my credit in order to determine if a deposit was necessary. - used equifax to verify my credit. At the - store I called Equifax and requested that they allow a credit inquiry. I verified all of my personal information and they agreed to lift the freeze on my account and provided me a confirmation number for the action : 1. After the first call at - the freeze was not lifted from my credit and my - application would not go through.


3. After the third call the equifax rep said their system was down and to call back in 30 minutes. We waited and called back. 4. after the fourth call the equifax representative said that their system was rebooting and requested that we call back in one hour. We waited the time and then called back. 5. After the fifth call they said the same thing. So we waited an hour and called back. 6. After the sixth call they said that their systems were up and the credit freeze was lifted. It was not. 7. After the seventh call ( now - - ) we were transferred to - who works for equifax in - in the -. - simply said that the credit was unfrozen and that - could call some other number. - called and also got no where with equifax. Equifax literally held my credit hostage. They cost me and my daughter an entire day 's work. My daughter 's time is worth $ - and while I am retired my time should have a reasonably equivalent value.
