In 2012 I received a loan from - -, my mom chose to make payments monthly to lower principal balance and would n't have to pay so much when I graduated. My mom paid - and then at some point it became Navient. My mom had a fianancial hardship but ultimately could n't pay 2 months but at the end of those 2 months they were able to pay the full amount and even the next months amount, thinking she was completely up to date. Then we began receiving harassing phone calls from a man from - saying I owed money and needed to pay now. He would yell and threaten to ruin my credit to my mom and myself. - called my grandma saying that our full balance was over $25000.00 but if we paid $10000.00 it the loan would be satisfied. My grandma then called back a week later offering to pay that $10000.00 amount, she took money from her retirement savings to be able to pay him, she was nervous because he offered no information that assured us that this was real and would n't come back later on saying we never payed. After putting her on hold repeatedly, they ultimately hung up on her, then said they no longer had the account. Now I remain in confusion because when I call Navient to ask them who I can properly pay to, they send me straight to - without giving me a chance to speak with them. This has ruined not only my grandmothers credit but my own. I never expected it would be legal for any company to act like this and leave consumers in the dark.
