- 2016 : I logged on to Navient to make a payment and found my account put into forbearance without my permission or notification. When I called customer service to sort out this issue I was told by a representative that they had received notification from a 3rd party that my father, the loans cosigner, had died. Needless to say this caused me distress and to spend the next few hours calling my family and tracking down my father to confirm that this was not true. When I called Navient back, I informed them that the information they received was false. I then inquired about the 3rd party that sent notice and I was told that that information was not available. I then asked them to correct the issue and put my account back to its previous state so that I could get caught up on payments. After 40 minutes waiting I was told that it would take 72 hours. I informed the agent that I would not make a payment until my account was corrected. It is now over 3 weeks later and the account is still in forbearance and showing inaccurate information and I refuse to deal with their incompetent customer service again. The account is probably accruing interest and I 'm sure late fees as well, but I ca n't get that information from their website. I am suspicious as well about this " 3rd party '' that told them my father passed. Since they will not tell me anything about them I have to assume that they, Navient, are behind this because they are the only ones gaining from my account being in forbearance ( accruing interest ). So I have turned to the only place that might be able to help me out.
