Hi, A little over a month ago my father passed away unexpectedly. He was the co-signer of a couple of my student loans that I have with Navient. I havent missed a payment on any of my loans in 3-4 years at this point. I got a call yesterday from Navient alerting me that one of my loans that was co-signed by my father was referred to - - and that they were responsible for collecting the $ - balance that was left. I talked to the woman that called from Navient and got the account information from her, logged onto my account and compared the information to what she was telling me. Come to find out that this loan she spoke of, was co-signed by my father and mother. This was after the lady on the phone was trying to tell me that I needed to apply with my mother as a co-signer or this loan could default if I didnt take action. My mother was already on there as a co-signer!!! They referred this loan to a debt collector when nothing was wrong!! My father passed away, but my mother is still around, and she is on the loan already. This has caused so much - to my mother and I during this already tough situation. She has been dealing with an estate lawyer, and having to go to probate court, and now this unnecessary burden on top of things? This is completely uncalled for, and something that should not have happened. I am at risk of hurting my credit score for something completely out of my control. Something needs to be done about their terrible and unethical handling of this situation. This is out of control!!!
