Non-federal student loan Can't repay my loan Can't get flexible payment options District of Columbia

I have recently received e-mails regarding the change in repayment plan that was set to expire at the end of next month. Navient had mentioned that I call them if I would have difficulty making the payment. My current budget had allowed for the repayment plan that I was currently on but the new repayment plan I was required to take on is outside of my budget and does not work for my financial situation. I called Navient today and spoke with - ( - ) and explained my financial situation and asked for estimates on proposed payment plans - he explained that due to my income level I did not qualify for any alternative repayment plan. I asked him how the repayment qualification process worked and whether consumers were aware of how and at what income levels we qualify for repayment plans. He told me that he did not have that information and that it was not available to consumers. I felt that this policy is very opaque and does not offer consumer 's the full understanding of why they have to pay specific repayment plans. Given all of the income and financial obligations that I have I would like to know how and why Navient builds their repayment plans ( what percentage over time and whether they can extend the life of the loan and whether there are actual repayment options ). I have been faithfully paying my loan since 2010 and do n't appreciate that arbitrary and non-transparent nature of my service provider. I 'm willing to make payments but do n't understand why my provider can not find common ground with me to make payments and work with my budget.
