Discover Credit card department,
Good Morning, I have a complaint about how discover card applies minimum payment every month. I have - different interest rate that cover - different balances. for example i have a balance of - with a 14 % int, a balance of - with 17 % int and a bal of - with 21 % int. The - balance is on older purchases and the 14 % is on new purchases. When they calculate my interest charge for the month, they have - different interest charges from the - balances. Each interest charge is added to the respective balance for example the int charge for the - at 21 % is added to the - balance. However, when I make my min monthly payment which includes the interest charged on all - balances, the min payment is applied to the balance with the lowest interest rate. That means the balance with the high interest rate keeps going up and I am charged interest on top of interest for the following months. The min payment should be applied to all - balances. Meaning interest charged at 22 % should be subtracted from the min payment because the min payment includes the interest charge for that month. This is a deceptive practice that discover card is practicing and has been practicing for years. It will take a lot of math to calculate how much I have lost due to this practice.
