Please excuse my writing errors as I am submitting through my -. I was contacted by a debt collection agency that stated that I owed PayPal money through synchrony bank in the amount of $320.00. I tried several times to contact Synchrony Bank and all they would tell me was that it related to a PayPal account that was opened and closed. I was able to show them that I have had a PayPal account for several years and had not opened or closed any additional accounts. Regardless the bank let me know that they could not help as the debt has been past to a debt agency. I asked for documentation that both proved the account was opened by me ( in hopes of showing this was fraud ) or that I was notified of an open debt but they said it was out of their hands and the debt collection agency is who I needed to deal with. After contacting the debt agency, -, I sent - dispute letters. All they did was send me the same information of the original creditor, Synchrony Bank, and links to file a long fraud or identity theft claim. As I could n't get any original documentation of the account opening and as a medical resident have little time to continue calling the PayPal bank and debt collector I decided to pay. I now believe that I am part of the PayPal dispute that illegally opened an account without my consent.
