I attempted to request a freeze on my credit report via the Equifax on-line process on - -, 2015, but the on-line process was inoperative and advised that the request could not be processed. As part of that initial process, I provided all requested personal information, including my current address, SS number, etc. On - -, I again tried to use the on-line process to place a freeze on my credit information and learned that Equifax had in fact placed a security freeze on my Equifax credit file. This had been done without Equifax notifying me of such freeze or providing me the PIN number I will need to release or terminate such freeze in the future. I was advised by the call-in center ( - ) that the PIN was mailed to a prior residential address where I resided three years ago, even though I gave them my current address when I initially used their on-line process. I was told by her that the old address was obtained from credit reports. I feel that my PIN has thus been compromised. Attempts to resolve this with Equifax have been unsuccessful in part because the call-center phone representative apparently does not sufficiently understand English, which is our only spoken language. I was asked repeatedly for the same information, i.e.., spelling of my name, address, social security number, etc. The process took over 30 minutes, including being put on hold several times. This entire interaction left me with some discomfort in knowing that my personal information was given to someone who impressed me as being incompetent.
