LendingTree, Inc Consumer loan department,
Vehicle loan Shopping for a loan or lease Texas
I used a website 'lending tree.com ' to shop for auto loan rates. The website asked for my personal information and the page title was 'Compare live rates ' and the final button was labeled 'View Free Offers '. When I clicked on 'View Free Offers ' my personal details were shared with companies that ran hard credit inquiries. I did not consent to any such terms - nor were they displayed in any form that made it reasonable to presume that I was effectively completing a loan application. The site is VERY misleading, and tricks consumers. The site infers that you can compare live rates for free whilst in effect it is tricking you to apply for loans with various lenders. As a result of the numerous hard enquiries my credit score has been impacted. I have asked lendingtree to remove the hard enquiries from my credit report but they have declined to do so. I encourage cfpb to request that the site be re-designed, so that it is CLEAR that the consumer is in fact completing a LOAN APPLICATION, and not merely shopping for rates.
