Credit card Cont'd attempts collect debt not owed Debt was paid Illinois

I left bank of America because I was being charged overdraft fees that were a direct result of them not crediting my deposits for up to a week. I left them and now I understand that they posted an outstanding debt to my credit report and show that I opened an account in -/-/- when I stopped doing any business with them in -/-/-. I called spoke to their representative and they said they would fax a letter showing that the debt was taken care of, then later in the day when the fax did n't come through they changed the story and said they would not be sending anything and that they sold the account to someone else and ca n't do anything with it.
