PayPal consumers have reported over 24 official complaints related to Debt resulted from identity theft. Out of the 24 consumer complaints against PayPal, 25% were disputed by the consumer (i.e. the consumer was not happy with how PayPal responded to their complaint) and 100% were processed in a timely manner. 17% of consumer complaints against PayPal resulted in the consumer receiving monetary compensation (e.g. money, cash reimbursement, etc.) and 58% resulted in non-monetary compensation.

My mom was given a reference number and a number so that I could contact them. When I called it was brought to my attention that Paypal had requested they start a collection process from me. I contacted Paypal only to find out that there were multiple accounts opened under my name, which have since been closed. Never have I opened or used a Paypal account. PayPal Debt collection cont'd attempts collect debt not owed debt resulted from identity theft May 1, 2015 - I received a PayPal debit card in the mail which I had NOT requested. The card was sent to my home address in the name of - -. '' I immediately called PayPal to cancel the card and to find out what had happened. The representative acknowledged that the account had been opened using stolen information. I subsequently communicated with the PayPal representative by e-mail ( which I have ) to confirm that the account had been closed and that the matter was resolved.
