Vehicle loan Problems when you are unable to pay Illinois
I had/have a auto loan with Chase. In - I had difficulties making payments do to a loss of work after a -
- . Then the vehicle started having significant mechanical problems not covered by the warranty. In - , Per Chase, I owed $8600.00 total and they wrote/ charged off the account, I was never informed of this until recently and my understanding is this - should have been issued in - or - . I tried communicated with Chase at various points between now and then. I asked to communicate through email as it was easier because I worked nights at the time. I was ignored. Other then collection notices and a late night visit by a repo man, he was arrested, I had no contact with Chase. Fast forward to the present. Chase issued a - for $8300.00 to myself and the IRS , Date of Ide ntifiable action is -/-/- . I included it in my taxes. Now Chase tells me I owe them $8700.00 ( $8300.00 plus interest ) to close the account as the debt was not canceled or discharged like their - form states. Chase informed me I still owe the debt it was not canceled, discharged, or forgiven. Chase then stated that when I pay it off I can fix it later with the IRS. If I do not pay it Chase states they will never do business with me again and my credit report will suffer. Chase refused to issue a fix/retraction for the - that they state does not cancel or discharge the debt. The - also states on the third page Chase sent me, " The IRS requires us to send you this form when we cancel $600.00 or more of your debt in a calendar year. It can be all or part of your debt and can be issued as a result of Chase 's decision to discontinue collection activity and cancel your debt. '' Chase states my issue is with the IRS and not them. Chase states I still owe the debt even though it was - and already claim as income on my taxes. Further, while researching the - topic, it seems that it is almost solely Chase engaging in this ongoing behavior that allows them a tax benefit while also trying to collect a debt they discharged/canceled.
