I purchased a high definition television that cost $1700.00 from Best Buy in -. In an effort to build credit ( since I usually make all purchases in cash ), I opened a Best Buy Credit Card. I bought it on a promotion that gave me no interest as long as the tv was paid by -/-/-. I made all monthly payments in excess of the minimum pmt due. Unbeknownst to me, there was a debt protection program added on that added an additional $ -- $25.00 to my bill every month which made it impossible to pay off the balance. Due to my work schedule ( - ), I never looked at the bill. I always drove to Best Buy when I arrived home and paid $100.00 on my account. It was not until after -/-/- that I received a bill saying I owed about $4000.00 for the tv because of deferred interest. I requested all of my bills, which Best Buy could not provide because the account was taken over By Citi from the originating creditor, -, so they provided as far back as they could. It was at that time, by looking at my statements, that I


would get what I overpaid back. In a later call, Best Buy then advised that the monies would not be applied to the promotion but to the account balance. We requested for them to pull the call and have a manager call us back and they never did. When we called back to speak with them, they never notated it on the account. At one point, we were offered a settlement, which we refused initially to get the debt protection issue resolved. Today we called to settle to get the account closed out once and for all and we were told that no settlement was available. When we asked why, we were told there was no specific reason, only that no settlement was available. To date I have paid $1400.00 in the debt protection program and for the last 6 months I have paid $1000.00. Citi was unable to provide with the total payments made since the account opened on -/-/-. I have been advised that I need to write in to get a copy of the statements from the inception of the account, which I will request today.
