Non-federal student loan Can't repay my loan Can't temporarily postpone payments Michigan
I have a private student loan with Wells Fargo that is currently in their collections department. I have tried with great effort to pay on this account and to bring it current. -/-/2016 I applied for a financial hardship forbearance to help reduce or delay my monthly payments and was denied. On -/-/2016 I called and spoke with a Wells Fargo representative ( employee ID # - ) with my concern over my past due amount and monthly payment amount. I asked her what I had to do to bring my account current and be eligible for a forbearance. She told me that if I made three consecutive payments of $70.00 they would be able to place the remaining balance due to the end of the loan, bringing me current and granting me a forbearance. I made payments of $70.00 for -/-/-, -/-/- and - as they requested. I even called Wells Fargo -/-/2016, to confirm payments made and that the agreement we made was still in place and they ensured me it was. The - payments were paid on time. ( however they still charged me late fees ). On -/-/- and -/-/- I called Wells Fargo to discuss the position of my loan, preparing to have it brought current and a forbearance be put in place. - Wells Fargo representatives that I spoke with acknowledged the agreement they had made with me on -/-/2016 however, they would not work with me on a forbearance or bringing the loan current. They absolutely refused to help me. My income is approximately $1500.00 a month. My living expenses alone account for almost 75 % of that. My loan amount with Wells Fargo is $7200.00. I am not looking to dismiss the loan, I am only looking to cease payments for a period of time or lower my monthly payment to one I can afford. I am concerned about this loan and how it continues to affect my credit. I would greatly appreciate any help and/or guidance with this situation. Thank you
