Credit reporting company's investigation Problem with statement of dispute California

I worked with a debt collector to settle an account which i paid off. The debt collector reported to experian that the account has been paid. But when I requested that this account be remove, it was denied. The account is hindering me from finding a place to live for myself and my child. The response i was given was that the debt will remain for 7 yrs. But over the last two months i have paid off three other debts and requested the also be removed with no problem. I dont understand why sum debts can be removed and others even if paid remain no matter how detrimental it is to my wellbeing. Ive worked really hard to correct my past mistakes with my credit and have built a - score from a - score just a lil over a yr ago. I would appreciate any help if possible with getting this paid off debt removed from my credit report
