Amex Credit Card Complaint

Amex Credit card department,

Advertising and marketing New Jersey

I visited the American Express Website ( www.card.americanexpress.com ) on -/-/2016 and did a pre-qualification to determine the best card for my balance transfer needs. My results indicated - cards, The Blue Cash Everyday, The Premier Rewards Gold Card and the Every Day Card. The website indicated 0 % APR for 12 months and a $100.00 reward after spending $1000.00 within the first 3 months for the Blue Cash Everyday Card. Based on this information, I did a Balance Transfer from my - Card which at the time had an APR of 12.99 % to my new Amex Blue Cash Everyday Card. First Statement dated -/-/2016 I was charged interest, I called customer service on -/-/2016 to put in an investigation. The first representative that I spoke to indicated that it might have been a system glitch. The second representative I spoke to a week later indicated I needed to enter a promotion code during the application process and as a result of me not entering a promotion code I would have to reapply using a promotion code for the same card. I replied that there was no mention of a promotion code at the time of my application and

updates. On -/-/- during one of my followup calls, I was told by the representative that " offers are advertised but not every one qualifies, it depends on ones credit report ''. At which point I responded that my credit report satisfied the lending requirements hence the approval of the credit card. The representative went on further to say " yes, you were approved to have the card but not the introductory offer after review of your credit report ''. After almost two months, a dozen phone calls and conversations with numerous representatives within the Customer Service Department, on -/-/2016 I was informed that the investigation has been closed and the introductory offer was not applied to my application because after review of my credit report, I do not qualify for the introductory offer for which I applied. I was however approved at an APR of almost 24 %. This was not indicated in the Disclosures/Credit Card Agreements on the website, which I took the time to read prior to submitting the application. This is clearly a violation of Regulation B, Equal Credit Opportunity Act and I truly believe that I have been a victim of discrimination with regards to the evaluation of my credit application. The advertising and marketing information listed on the website was unfair, misleading and extremely deceptive.
