Citibank Credit card department,
APR or interest rate Pennsylvania
Hi, on -/-/-, I purchase new windows including their installations from my local - in -, pa ; the purchased amount was $7900.00. I choose to take advantage of the free - months credit that was offered at this time ; I therefore used my Home Depot Credit card to make the purchase. The Home Depot credit card is affiliated to Citi Cards to manage credit and payments. I had built in automatic monthly payments to repay the loan. The - months credit expired in -/-/- ; unfortunately because I am travelling extensively and I am not as alert as a younger person would be, I let pass the - months free credit period.
purchase. THIS MADE NO SENSE TO ME!! And I called immediately Home Depot/Citi Card customer service and they explained to me that when the free credit period expires not only do they start charging interest BUT do it retroactively from the date of the purchase. I told them I would accept paying interest charges from the end of the free credit period and as a show of good faith and I immediately paid $6000.00 which I estimated would be approximately the balance from the end of the free credit period plus interests less my continuous monthly repayments. I send them a registered letter asking them for leniency and understanding and asked my bank to stop paying the new coming charges ; they responded by asking to call them which I did on -/-/-. Their position had not changed and they were completely inflexible, THE BOTTOM LINE AND THE LEARNING : THE FREE CREDIT PERIOD ( IN THIS CASE 18 MONTHS ) IS NOT A FREE CREDIT PERIOD IF THERE IS STILL A BALANCE AT THE END OF THE PERIOD AND THEY CHARGE RETROACTIVELY INTEREST FROM THE START, IE THE PURCHASE DATE. IT IS A SMART BUT DEVIOUS, ABUSIVE AND HIGHLY UNETHICAL WAY TO TRICK PEOPLE INTO WHAT THEY BELIEVE IS FREE CREDIT AS - PEOPLE LIKE ME AND I AM SURE MANY OTHERS GET CAUGHT, FORGETTING THE - MONTHS DEADLINE AND OVERLOOOKING THEIR STATEMENTS AND FINDING OUT THAY ARE PAYING INTEREST FROM DAY ONE. THIS IS A HIGHLY DISHONNEST " CORPORATE '' WAY OF ATTRACTING CUSTOMERS INTO A POTENTIALLY VERY COSTLY ADVENTURE. I WOULD LIKE YOU TO PLEASE 1/ - GIVE THE LARGEST VISIBILITY TO THIS SITUATION WHICH I AM SURE IS FAR FROM BEING UNIQUE AND 2/ BE KIND ENOUGH IF YOU CAN TO NEGOTIATE ON MY BEHALF WITH HOME DEPOT/CITI CARD A REASONABLE SETTLEMENT. THIS WILL BE BENEFICIAL I AM SURE TO MANY PEOPLE.
