JPMorgan Chase & Co. Credit card department,
I applied for and received a credit card from Chase. I called the number they provided with the card to activate it, which was -. I was told that the activation system was down and they could not activate the card at that time, but they offered to send me a $100.00 gift card as a token of their appreciation. I said, OK. Then they said I would have to pay a $4.00 handling charge. I asked if this was a one-time charge and the person said, yes. He then, very quickly, read some terms and conditions. From this, I gathered that they were signing me up for some type of service, which would have a monthly fee, because I heard him say I could cancel by calling them at a later time. A that point I told him I did not want this and to cancel it.
I believe this is a scam to sign up customers for some type of monthly service with ongoing charges. This seems similar to what - - was doing and possibly worse because it appears to me that they are lying to their customers in order to sign them up for services they do not want. Please investigate.
