Credit monitoring or identity protection Problem with fraud alerts Maryland
My issue is that I am having trouble getting to the bottom of a credit alert that appeared in my - account. As a - impacted by the - breach, I registered for this monitoring service. I received an alert, reported by Equifax, that a new - - account was " reported ... on your Equifax Credit Report. '' - provided a phone number to call if I suspected fraud so they could follow up on the alert, but the only automated options available on that phone number were for opening new accounts with them, necessitating a PIN provided by OPM. But, I of course had already done that. There was no way to reach a person to talk to about the reported information and my concern. I then called - - to see what I can find out there. I did get to an individual in their credit bureau, but she could not find any account with my name or ss # - other that an - - card I already have - and suggested that
I then called Equifax, and again entered the automated system without any ability to talk to an individual in order to explain my situation. I was, however, able to establish a fraud alert for 90 days, through their automated system, and they indicated they would share the information with - and -. But, my concern now is that someone may have indeed opened an account with my ss # and, possibly, other identifying information, and could be creating problems for me. But, without more details on what led to this alert, - - seems unable to follow up from their end. Frustrated with not getting any satisfaction with - or Equifax, I tried calling - at various numbers. I was unable to reach anyone, even at the Director 's office ( can you believe nobody answers the phone at the Director 's office? ). Their office responsible for - had no way to contact them either, only providing the - phone number that I had already tried. Thanks you in advance for any assistance you can provide in this matter. I have attached the screen shot of the alert from - page.
