Citibank Credit Card Complaint

Credit determination

Citibank Credit card department,

Credit determination Pennsylvania

I received a sudden email with the subject " Notice of account closure '' from Citibank. The email itself did not contain any information about any closure but said I had a message waiting on their system and to click the link to login. Upon doing so no message was available. When I called Citibank to discuss this the agent did say that my account was closed. While they were apparently under no obligation to notify me in advance that my card would be cancelled due to inactivity, I have in the past been so notified by creditors for a variety of reasons including their ability to remind me ( i.e. sell me ) the features of my card and entice me to use it again. In such cases I have been reminded of better benefits and resumed such use. However, my complaint largely centers around the fact that they are able to do this when it can directly impact my credit rating by reducing my credit capacity. I can easily envision a circumstance where somebody less fortunate than myself was successfully able to build credit worthiness but opted not to use their credit card so they did not carry any debt. However they would need to get a loan for a home or car, or to apply to rent a home/apartment. Losing that credit capacity and in turn lowering their credit rating could have an adverse effect when trying to leverage credit in those other circumstances. It seems fair to me that a credit card company should at least provide a few opportunities for a consumer to maintain the account before cutting it off so as to avoid these situations.
