U.S. Bancorp Credit Card Complaint

Sale of account

U.S. Bancorp Credit card department,

Sale of account District of Columbia

I had a credit card with one bank and they sold it to another bank. I did not get notice of the sale. When I went online to see if I owed money to the credit card the following month, the site said my account was no longer open. I did n't know why my account was n't open, but I did n't have time to deal with it as other life emergencies were taking precedence. Later, I received a letter from the new owner of my account saying that it was past due. I called the number on the letter and found out that my account was sold but still exists. I paid the account in full. However, because I was not notified of the sale and was told my account was closed when I tried to go pay it initially, my payment was 41 days late. Now I have a 30 day late payment on my credit report. I asked the new bank to remove it given the circumstances and they said they can not. They said that the only way for this to be resolved is for me to file a dispute with every credit reporting agency

( I am about to apply for a mortgage ), my rate will be higher on the biggest loan I take in my lifetime. Also, there is a high degree if privilege in the notion that everyone has the time to wait and request reports and write letters and follow up on letters and go through the whole intentionally-difficult process. For people who are just barely keeping their head above water, due to their health or life emergencies ( which applies to me right now ), things like this slip through the cracks. I would close this account but for the fact that it is my oldest account and closing it would negatively impact my credit score. I try to do every responsible thing and it does n't matter. Now if I do n't spend my time writing letters to credit reporting agencies, rather that attending to very critical things in my life, I will be harmed financially. This system does n't work. The bank should have corrected it. I know that they can.
