Checking account Problems caused by my funds being low Missouri
When I signed up for my bank account, I opted out of the option to allow my account to go negative for overdraft purchases. My debit card is supposed to be declined if the account is overdraft or if the transaction will allow me to go negative. However, on -/-/16, my account was overdrawn because of debit card transaction and I was charged $180.00 in overdraft fees. Since this was also a holiday weekend, the transactions posted to my account very late and were n't posted in order. I contacted my bank online via their messaging system and asked them to remove the fees as my debit card should not be allowed to go negative and my card was not declined. I did not receive a response. I called them on -/-/16, 2 weeks after I sent the message, and I was told that my account was opted in to allowing my account to go negative for debit card purchases and that I could not have the fees waived because of that. I explained that when I signed up, I specifically said I wanted the option for my debit card to be declined if my account is negative and they should also have the forms confirming that in writing, the forms were filled out with pen. If they made an error and registered my account incorrectly for their own benefit, they need to waive the overdraft fees.
