Wells Fargo & Company Credit Card Complaint

Unsolicited issuance of credit card

Wells Fargo & Company Credit card department,

Unsolicited issuance of credit card New Jersey

On - -, 2012 a line of credit was opened in my name and within several days I received a Wells Fargo " Platinum Card '' credit card in the mail with a line of credit shown to be $5000.00. I did not formally ( nor informally ) request an application for this card or apply for it. However, I did receive a " cold '', unsolicited phone call from a Wells Fargo Representative either on, or several days before - -, 2012 during a time which I was at work. I answered the phone because it was a number I did not recognize, and explained to the representative that it was during the work day and therefore not a convenient time for me to talk. The Wells Fargo representative asked if he could " send me some information ''. I told him that would be fine, and hung up the phone. Several days later I received a physical credit card in the mail with additional information about my new " account '' which as I mentioned I had not applied for. I also noticed the new credit account show up as a new line item in my online banking

to the fact that I was planning an trip abroad later that month, and felt it would be helpful to have a line of credit to fall back on should any emergencies arise ) - This credit card I received from Wells Fargo was my first generic " credit card '', and prior to then my only credit card accounts were - and - - branded cards, and an - - - - - ( no line of credit, just a charge card ). All of that said, I have used the card since having activated it, but have always felt unsettled by the fact that I never requested it, and frankly was entirely baffled as to how this could have happened. After hearing about the recent allegations yesterday on the news outlining circumstances which sounded very similar, I wanted to share my story. At the very least, I take solace in knowing my experience was not an isolated issue. I plan to look into this further and obtain any other pertinent details ( for example, who exactly called me and why this occurred ). I would greatly appreciate any further clarification, potential resolution, or to be pointed in the direction of someone designated to assist with this particular situation. I am a resident of New Jersey, so if there are state resources I can contact I am happy to get in touch.
