I 've had an American Express - - for years. In - 2016 I applied for, and on - - received an email that I was accepted for, an American Express Premier Rewards Gold Card. I received a letter in the mail confirming such a few days later. The card was supposed to have been sent then. After waiting a couple weeks for the new Gold Card, I contacted American Express through their online chat ; the rep said I would receive it in a few days but I did n't. Twice more when the card did n't arrive I chatted with a representative, each of whom said I would receive it in a day or two. However, the only thing they did was cancel my OLD ( - ) card, which I did n't ask them to do. This was a big inconvenience, as in cancelling the old card, they also changed the number. And, I


Today I chatted online yet again with an American Express representative, '- ', who did not seem to understand - well. Or perhaps she was just a poor reader. She said ( wrote ) that I had phoned to cancel my old ( blue ) card, which I had not. ( She told me to call a number to report the fraud, but I told her to do it as I 'm tired of dealing with incompetent American Express representatives ). She did n't seem to understand or know anything about my new gold card which was supposed to have been mailed to me a month ago. So I asked her to transfer me to her supervisor, which she did ( - ). - at least seemed to understand -, and said that my new ( gold ) card had been mailed to me - -. Although two previous representatives with whom I 'd spoken had given me other ( earlier ) dates that the card was supposed to get to me, so I do n't trust that it was mailed - - either. He told me to phone a number to see where the card was. However, I had no desire to waste my time dealing with yet more incompetent American Express representatives, so I asked him to phone them, but he said he could n't. Nor was he able to email me or send me a message through the web site about his communication with them. Finally I told him to cancel both my old blue card and my ( non-existent, never arrived ) gold card. It is absolutely pathetic that American Express is incapable of dealing with such a simple process as sending out a new card.
