Citibank charged me a returned check fee on a paycheck citing " unable to locate account '' as the reason. This does not make sense, as they were provided the original, undamaged paper check. Other payroll checks submitted to Citibank at exactly the same time as the problem check also originating from the same employer/same account were successfully deposited into my newly established savings account ( opened -2 weeks ago ). As this error is due to Citibank 's lack of thoroughness and the actual check was in their possession, I feel that fees generated by their inability to locate an account that was located for similarly issued, clearly typed paychecks at or around the same time, are due to the result of their actions. I should not have to pay for Citi 's incapability to perform basic banking duties. This was not caused by transmission/transcription errors ; it 's simply not my fault.
As I have only recently opened this savings account with them, I would like to now close my account without incurring any fees if there are any for early closure - $25.00 if closed within 90 days of opening? ) due to this negative experience immediately after opening an account. I can only anticipate more unjust and inane fees and would like to sever my banking ties early. This is not worth the frustration when several consumer friendly options exist.
