Non-federal student loan Can't repay my loan Can't decrease my monthly payments North Carolina
The school financial advisor told us ( me and my parent ) that the loan we were agreeing to was private but explained it as though it had the same terms as a federal loan. Repayment started as I was in school and the payments were graduated. After the payments got too high I tried to apply for different payment options, but was told that because of the type of loan I signed, I could n't qualify for different payment options. I paid for -, $50.00 forbearances ( the limit for the life line of the loan ). The loan defaulted almost 20 payments ago. Although the loan defaulted, my parent has been making $ -/mo interest only payments on the loan. She 's made - payments. The loan servicer told her that after 24 payments they would evaluate the loan and determine if it could come out of default. I told her they were lying bc she did n't get it in writing. When I call to speak with them about a recovery plan they tell me there is n't one. I want to catch up on the payments, but I ca n't afford to at this point. I honestly do n't believe that they want it paid off because they wo n't work with us at all. I 'm currently saving in order to offer a settlement amount, but it 's going to take me many more months before I can save enough and the interest on the loan will continue to grow.
