JPMorgan Chase & Co. Credit card department,
I applied for a mortgage loan on -/-/-. I was denied, in part, based on ratio of balance to limit on revolving accounts and amount owed on delinquent accounts ( - of attachment ). While I have managed to correct much of the incorrect information, I was unable to get - Chase account corrected. on page - of the attachment is a Chase account that shows a limit $5000.00 and a past due balance of $3200.00. The problem is that Chase made a decision on -/-/- to discharge the debt and cancel it as shown on page - of the attachment, a - which I paid federal and state income taxes on the discharged amount as required by law. When I received the credit report from - ( - of the attachment ) on -/-/-, I disputed that there was an open account with a credit limit and balance past due as the report clearly indicates the account is closed, so there would be no credit available and since the debt was discharged there could be no balance, past due or otherwise. I received the dispute results from - on -/-/- ( pp. - of attachment ) and it indicated
the account was closed, that there was no available credit and that the debt had been discharged. However, the credit reporting employee that I spoke to stated that since I did not settle this debt, even though the debt was discharged and there was no longer any attempt to collect, the past due balance would remain on my credit report for a full - years because they could. I explained that I had settled - other accounts with Chase, the employee checked and confirmed that was true. I asked how this could be held against me since this was Chase ' decision to discharge and I was never given the opportunity to settle this account? It was obvious that I was making every effort to resolve everything but Chase decided on their own to discharge this debt without an attempt to settle and now is holding it against me. He stated because we can. It is patently unfair for this account to be shown as having a $5000.00 limit and a past due balance of $3200.00, when in fact that is false. Thanks in advance for your assistance in resolving this. - -
