Non-federal student loan Can't repay my loan Can't decrease my monthly payments Colorado
When I first signed my student loans, all were under - -. I was told by my college, - - - - - - - - -, that I would need several more loans to in order to graduate. I did not qualify for another federal loan, so it was recommended that I apply for a private loan. That was in 2009. Once I graduated and began making payments, I was told by - - that all of my loans qualified for Public Service forgiveness if I remained in a public service job for 10 years and made 120 on time payments during that time. I also applied for income based repayments ; I make FAR LESS than what the Department of Education thinks I do. For some reason they have decided to make their income based repayment plans based on what someone makes BEFORE taxes ; not after. make $1600.00 a month after taxes. Navient takes around $560.00 ( both private and Federal loans ) of that. that 's - % of my monthly income. I 'm - years old and have to live in my parent 's basement. I make more than what I ever have, and yet I still live from paycheck to paycheck. It 's humiliating and degrading. The one hope I had, The public service forgiveness program, has now been ripped away from me. It is unfair of the Department of Education and of Navient to demand such unreasonable repayments. I have all the desire in the world to get these paid and yet no one is willing to work with me so I can regain my dignity and actually feel like an adult while making these payments. If this continues, I will continue to be stuck in the same situation I currently am in.
