JPMorgan Chase & Co. Credit card department,
I was offered a credit card product that would serve as an overdraft protection option for my checking account. The program was offered at an introductory rate of 2.9 % and after the initial 6 month period would increase to the typical rate of 12.24 %. Instead of increasing to 12.24 % it went to 19.49 %. To summarize the impact what I ended up being charged was $2200.00 in interest vs. $1500.00. So at the end of the day I 'm legitimately liable for the $1500.00 and this is what I agreed to pay Chase. What makes this scenario worse is that I did n't realize they were only taking out the monthly minimum when I had more than enough cash in the account to cover the full balance. While it 's my fault for not noticing this fact earlier I could have paid far less than the $1500.00. I have since paid of all the principal balance on the account plus the $1500.00 in interest. I have asked Chase on numerous occasions to credit my account for the remaining balance as a gesture of good will and to bring the overall annualized interest down to a reasonable 12.24 %. Even though I have filed a formal dispute with Chase they are now dinging my credit report. Despite my 20+ year history with Chase as a " valued '' customer the insist they are unable to credit my account for the overcharged interest. I will soon be closing my accounts with Chase in exchange for a local bank who truly values their customers.
