Ten years ago, I went into a bad - program that did nothing for my future. I lived off loans and eventually landed a job only to be laid off in 2008. I held part time jobs and tried to pay down some of my loans but when I decided to go back to school, the loans were in deferment. Now I 'm a teacher and trying to pay off debts but the once - - now Navient loans have almost tripled in size. I do n't know how to pay them off in my lifetime. Their staff is rude, the calls from them are harassment, unhelpful and I 'm trying to figure out a concrete plan before I start giving them money. I fully intend to reach a settlement and pay that sum off. I should have never been approved for these loans in the first place. I also hold blame to the University - 's financial aide department for allowing this to happen as well. I was young and too naive.
