In addition to refusing to make negotiations via the mail, after repeated attempts to get answers without having to talk to someone on the phone ( which I contacted CFPB about a few months ago ), Navient has received over $20000.00 in payments from me over the last 5+ years. I was horrified to find out that as of today, almost ALL of that money has gone into interest only payments. Of the - loans that were taken out, only - of them has decreased by around $1800.00. The rest of them have gone up - way up. In short, $64000.00 has turned into almost $75000.00 - and counting. This is a nightmare. I am making the only payments I can " afford. '' In all reality, I ca n't even afford the monthly payment for the plan they put me on. But after trying to negotiate with them on the phone this - ( while on the brink of default ) and being asked all of my income and expenses, they came up with a random monthly payment after talking me through their 1 % interest plan. That number does not line up with my income vs. expenses -
it, and that I need to start putting money away for retirement ( but can not afford it ), there is still no other solution on their end. It is so incredibly disheartening that all of the money I have worked so hard to support myself with, and have used to " chip away '' at my student loans, feels like it is being thrown to the wind. It seems that no matter what I am able to afford, no payment is large enough that will make a dent in my principal balance. It feels like there is no end in sight, and I am increasingly frustrated with the way that Navient does business. It is truly criminal what they are getting away with - and I do n't know where else to turn. Having a college education should not warrant punishment, but that 's exactly what this feels like.
